The Six Centuries Club is currently seeking members for calendar year 2009.
Institutional memberships are available for university and public libraries, and libraries of historic societies and preservation groups (one membership per institution). Institutional memberships are listed first; household memberships, which start upon payment in 2009 and end on December 31, 2009, follow.
Here are the options for your consideration.
INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIP LEVELS
There are two institutional membership levels for 2009:
$40 - 2009 two-issue subscription
Includes one copy each of Sensations Magazine Issue 45, Spring/Summer 2009, "18th Century America," and Issue 46, Fall/Winter 2009, "19th Century America".
$80 - 2008-2009 two-issue subscription
This subscription, limited to university libraries, includes "backfill" of Sensations Magazine Issue 43, "16th Century America" and Issue 44, "17th Century America," in addition to the two 2009 issues.
Institutions ordering through EBSCO should specify a start date in 2009 with their order, which will get you the two 2009 issues. If you wish to backfill, either include $80 with your first payment, or contact us via the "Contact Us" page to make separate payment arrangements for the two 2008 issues.
All rates above include all shipping costs.
HOUSEHOLD MEMBERSHIP LEVELS
There are six annual membership levels, at annual rates "locked" for 2009, 2010, and 2011. Basic memberships of $30 and below cover our expenses for 2009. Higher level memberships give us additional funds to cover operating expenses such as accounting fees, annual corporate taxes, and more.
You may upgrade your membership to a higher level at any point in the calendar year. For now, please choose one of the following:
- $25 - "Sensations Magazine Patron" (2-issue subscription, no event attendance/notifications)
Includes invitations to select public events and one 2009 "members-only" event, along with a two-issue subscription to Sensations Magazine (Issue 45, Spring/Summer 2009, "18th Century America," and Issue 46, Fall/Winter 2009, "19th Century America"). This membership level is for individuals who live outside the "event attending" zones of New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. $1 per annual membership is donated to charity.
$30 - "Magazine & Events Patron"
This is the standard 2009 membership rate, for all members seeking to receive Sensations Magazine and attend both private and public events for 2009. Includes invitations to all private events held in-house in Lafayette, NJ, at the meeting space for The Six Centuries Club - including poetry readings, history presentations, and private video and movie screenings. Includes a two-issue 2009 subscription to Sensations Magazine. Poets who join at this level or higher may provide a link to one personal website, listed on our"News & Links" page. $1 per annual membership is donated to charity.
$50 - "Publisher Patron" - RECOMMENDED STARTER RATE
Includes all benefits of "Magazine & Events Patron," a two-issue subscription to Sensations Magazine, and one poetry book by Publisher David Messineo, based on current availability. $1 per annual membership is donated to charity.
$75 - "Library Patron"
Due to state budget cuts, some prominent university and public libraries can no longer afford to subscribe to Sensations Magazine. Membership at this level includes a one-year $40 gift subscription to a library on our list of beneficiaries, along with your own two-issue subscription, and all benefits of "Magazine & Events Patron" Membership. 2009 "Library Patron" members may be recognized in the pages of Sensations Magazine by name, if desired.
$100 - "Benefactor"
"Benefactor" level membership helps The Six Centuries Club to meet its corporate expenses and obligations, including accountant fees, corporate taxes, advertising and promotional fees, and other business expenses. Includes all benefits of the "Publisher Patron" level, plus one additional poetry book by David Messineo, based on current availability. 2009 "Benefactor" level members may be recognized in the pages of Sensations Magazine by name, if desired.
$250 - "Patriot"
"Patriot" Membership is available for individuals and corporations, with listing as such in the pages of Sensations Magazine, if desired. 2009 "Patriot" level membership includes all benefits of "Library Patron" level membership, plus a "box set" of all six poetry books written by David Messineo, including the no-longer-available First Impressions, A Taste of Italy, and Restoration. Only five "box sets" are available, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Rates above are "base" rates. Any amount may be contributed above and byond the rates specified above. Such donations will be used to offset operating expenses such as accounting fees, corporate business taxes, etc. Howver, since The Six Centuries Club is a for-profit S corporation and not a charity, any monies contributed are not tax deductible.
SELECTED BENEFICIARY FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2009:
HARVEST HOUSE, GLENWOOD, NJ
The Six Centuries Club selects one beneficiary per year to receive $1 of each paid magazine subscription. Our 2009 beneficiary will be Harvest House, which serves hot meals in Sussex, New Jersey.
Starting in 2000 and every week since, Harvest House has provided a free lunch to anyone in need, Monday to Friday. Harvest House currently provides over 1,000 meals per month - a number that is sure to grow in today's "economy." While there are numerous food pantries in Sussex County (where people can take bags of food or canned goods home), this is to our knowledge the only one in Sussex County, our base county of operations, that is providing hot meals five days a week. We have been impressed with them, and are pleased to offer them our support for 2009.
The $1 per issue fundraising marks a resumption of an ongoing commitment by Sensations Magazine to help individually select charities - not those with budgets in the millions of dollars, but those where a little can go a long way. From 1987 to 2008, Sensations Magazine has raised $4,200 for a variety of charities; our goal is to raise that total to $5,000 by Issue 50 in 2012. We thank all our subscribers for their contributions in making that happen, and their continuing support of this effort.
